Our Sacramental Program is offered in line with the Sacramental Policy of the Archdiocese of Brisbane. The revised policy ensures children preparing for Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion, and Penance experience a collaborative process of formation which is parish-based, family-centred, and school-supported. Our parish program is offered once each year, is open to children who have already been baptised and are in grade 3 or above. If children have not been baptised, this can be arranged prior to enrolment in the Sacramental Program by contacting the Parish Office.

Sacramental Program (for children)

It is an exciting time when children receive their Sacraments, however for parents, guardians and god-parents it can be an overwhelming experience which is usually followed by lots of questions. The Sacramental journey is marked by preparation in Grade 3 for Confirmation, Grade 4 for Holy Communion, and then Grade 5 for Penance ensuring the children journey with the Parish for the 3 years. “The idea is to try and keep people connected and have a sense of belonging.”

Our Archdiocese will support our Parish and families through the implementation of the revised program as it takes shape over time. We are also blessed to have ongoing support from Evangelisation Brisbane who are assisting the Parish initiate children into the Church. The Brisbane Archdiocese has also published a website providing online resources for families who might be unfamiliar about the sacraments of initiation. The website, www.flameoffaith.org.au, includes information about the four sacraments as well as supplementary videos produced by the Brisbane archdiocese.

Sacrament of Confirmation

What is Confirmation?

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second sacrament of Christian initiation. Through the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. We are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus, and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely.

Sacrament of Eucharist

What is Eucharist?

Eucharist is the sacrament that completes the process of initiation and is when one can fully participate in the Eucharist by receiving Holy Communion. Eucharist is unique among the sacraments as it is at the heart of our faith. For Catholics, the Eucharist, or Mass, is the most powerful way we encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ.

Sacrament of Penance

What is Penance?

Penance is a sacrament in which forgiveness of sins committed after baptism is granted through the priest’s absolution to those with true sorrow. In reconciliation we have the opportunity to repent and recover the grace of friendship with God. It is a holy moment in which we place ourselves in His presence and honestly acknowledge our sins.
